Paseo del Prado

The Paseo del Arte

Paseo del Prado is the avenue that links Atocha to Cibeles, and the Paseo del Arte is its run of museums. The Royal Botanic Garden and the Cuesta de Moyano bookstalls sit alongside.

The Prado costs 15 euros and is free Monday to Saturday 18:00 to 20:00 and Sundays 17:00 to 19:00. The Reina Sofía is free Monday and Wednesday to Saturday 19:00 to 21:00 and on Sundays 12:30 to 14:30. The Thyssen-Bornemisza opens its permanent collection free on Mondays 12:00 to 16:00. The Naval Museum is free all year but closes in August.

The Royal Botanic Garden was declared an Artistic Garden in 1942 and costs 4 euros. The Cuesta de Moyano is a slope lined with second-hand bookstalls. The Cibeles Palace has a viewing gallery, Mirador Madrid, for 4 euros.

El Brillante by Atocha station has served squid sandwiches since 1961 and opens at 06:30.

Getting there

Atocha (L1), Estación del Arte (L1) and Banco de España (L2) are the Metro stops the tourism board lists for the Prado.

What to see

Atocha Station is open every day from 05:00 to 01:00 and has free access. Casa de América on Plaza de Cibeles has free exhibitions Monday to Saturday.
